Turkey, Develops Roketsan Tank Turret System

Turkiye's state-owned defense company, Roketsan, has developed a new modular tank turret called Moduler Zırhlı Kule (MZK).

The MZK turret is armed with a 105mm gun and uses an automatic loading system to reduce the crew size.

The new turret design also offers increased crew protection by mounting explosive reactive armor.
In addition, there is a slat armor turret feature designed to increase defense against hits from rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs).

The MZK turret system will be integrated into the Turkiye Army's M60A3 Main Battle Tank (MBT) chassis, but can also be mounted on other tanks such as the Leopard or T-72.

The new turret weighs 13 tons, which is lighter than the original turret of the M60A3 which weighed 14.5 tons and the turret of the T-72 which weighed 18 tons.

This universal turret solution enables the modernization of old tanks to a new level required on the modern battlefield for both the Turkiye Armed Forces and exports.
